Well here we are on Christmas Day, December 25, 2009. By now all the family from out of town has arrived and are settled in to enjoy the holiday.
Today there will be many spiral hams, turkeys and prime rib dinners shared with family and friends. Great memories will be made and remembered for Holidays to come.
My favorite Christmas was in 1992. Mom and Dad and I spent it with my younger brother, his wife and my nephew/Godson, Jason. My brother and his family had just moved into their new house, 3 bedroom 2 bath house, and I drove up with Mom and Dad to spend Christmas together. Jason was only 4 years old at the time.
We arrived after an 8 hour drive and we were a little bit tired, but we still needed to unload the Jeep and all the presents for Jason. So my sister-in-law and I took Jason with us to the grocery store. This gave my brother and parents time to unload my Jeep and hide the presents.
When we got back from the grocery store my brother took my nephew aside and told him that he was to use the bathroom in his parents bedroom. Being Grandma and PoP-Pop and Aunt Jo were going to use his bathroom in the hall.
I thought, “What do you mean he can’t use the hall bathroom – we can all share,” but the bathroom rule was enforced. A little while later my brother took me into the bathroom and moved the shower curtain to the side and that is where all the Christmas presents were stored – we both laughed.
With 6 of us in the house, we had to double up on bathing - it all worked out fine.
When Christmas Eve arrived we finally got Jason to bed and unfortunately Grandma and Pop-Pop also fell asleep. Leaving just my brother, sister-in-law and me move all the presents from the bathtub to under the Christmas Tree. We had lots of fun trying to be quiet and arrange the presents. We finished and to celebrate we eat Santa’s cookies. If I remember right we had a stronger drink then milk – Ho Ho Ho.
Christmas morning was priceless – The really funny thing was Jason got one of the Nurf Dart foam gun sets and we were all running around and playing with it until we almost shot Grandma in the head with one of the foam Nurf Darts. No one was hurt and we all had a good laugh. Good Memories.
Let’s all send a special prayer, not only today but everyday,
for all our service women and men who are
not able to celebrate the holidays with their families.
Wishing you and your loved ones a very
Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday Season.
May the New Year be the best one yet.
God Bless our Families!
