Getting Your Driver’s License

Remember when you got your driver’s license? You were counting the days and studying the driver’s manual until you could take the test to get your driver’s permit. You constantly bothered your parents to let you drive them everywhere they went.

In Florida, where I grew up, you could get your driving permit at age 14, if your parents allowed you to.  Then at 16 you got your regular license after passing the road test.

It wasn’t until my senior year at Miami-Palmetto Sr. High school that I turned 16 and my Dad took me for the road test. I was doing great up until that last left turn at an intersection I wasn’t familiar with and I did not pass the first time.  My world had almost come to an end – I did not pass.

When we got home, Mom was very supportive and consoled me and said that I’d pass the next time.  Dad took me back the next day and I passed with flying colors Mom was right as she usually was.

The deal with my parents car was that I could use it if I paid the car insurance and upkeep.  I earned money by working after school as a part-time cashier and had two families that I babysat for.  I did all kinds of odd jobs to make money for my car and college expenses.  Some of my odd jobs were washing windows, ironing, cutting lawns, painting, trimming hedges, and cooking to name a few.

Now a days I work from home on my blog and make a living on the Internet with social networking and Internet marketing.

My Mom was very concerned for my safety, as all Moms are, and I had to call her every day when I got to high school.  My first class of the day I worked in the administration office and called Mom.  The office staff thought what a nice thing I was doing letting Mom know that I got to school OK every day.

Those were the good old days!
