Happy Thanksgiving Day

Lookin Good Tom Turkey

Lookin Good Tom Turkey

Well today is the last day before Thanksgiving Day.  Turkeys are defrosting, cakes and cookies are baking. Relatives and friends are traveling to spend the holiday with family and friends. Dinner menus are being finalized and hopefully the last minute shopping is being completed.  Then on the other hand reservations for Thanksgiving dinner have been made and confirmed.

This is the busiest holiday of the year and it kicks off the festive holidays that follow in December.  People are taking extra days off for the holiday and having a 4 day weekend.  Air travel is at its highest and the roads are busy with trying to get home for the holiday.

Once we get home and settled in the fun begins.  ahhh the smell of the turkey cooking, cranberry sauce, turkey stuffing, dinner rolls, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, apple cider and then comes the apple, pumpkin and pecan pies.

As the turkey is cooking we’re watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Rose Bowl Parade. In the afternoon comes the football games and time spent out in the yard playing with the kids and relatives.  A fun time for all. Then it’s nap time, from eating the turkey.

More football, more desserts and maybe a Hallmark movie. We don’t want to stay up too late because we have to get up early and get to the stores for Black Friday and all the holiday deals and just the right gifts for everyone.

Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving and Holiday Season.

Is Oprah Leaving Us?

What are we going to do without Oprah everyday?

I, along with millions of other viewers, have grown up watching The Oprah Winfrey Show. For more then two decades we have been entertained, educated, enlightened and had our spirits uplifted. When I worked for corporate America, I remember recording her shows just not to miss the great information she presented.  Now that I work from home I can watch her every day.

I like the variety of subjects presented on literature, spirituality, new age and self-improvement. Her show has been ground-breaking and the topics connect her with people all around the world. She is one of the most admired and respected people of today and one of America’s top philanthropists.

Topics were presented in an intimate and at times in a confessional manner. Presenting things we all care about, but maybe to ashamed or embarrassed to ask or talk about. Thanks to Oprah we have Dr Phil, Dr Oz, Louise Hay, Marianne Williamson, Eckhart Tolle, Rachael Ray and many more that have come into our homes and enriched our lives.

My favorite was the web classroom with Eckhart Tolle and Oprah presenting “The Power of Now” on a live webcast to an estimated 700,000 people.  The world is made up of many different people and hopefully by watching Oprah we all have grown as individuals in some way.

Yes, Oprah will end her daily show and she’ll be missed. We wish her well on her new adventure launching her own television network appropriately named The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). This will allow her to present many new topics to the millions of like-minded people around the world. I’m very excited to see what she does next; the best is yet to come – so stay tuned…

Flea Market Weekend

The weather here in Blairsville last weekend was great, with day time temperatures in the low 70’s. Beautiful blue skies with white puffy clouds. I ventured out to visit Decker’s and Foster’s Flea Market in Murphy, NC. It’s only 22 miles from Blairsville. What a great way to spend a day.

Road to Flea Market

Off to the Flea Market

The drive up to Murphy was quite interesting. Having lived most of my life in Florida, where the land is completely flat, I’m learning how to drive in mountains. You do not take your eyes off the roads at all because there are very few guard rails on the roads. If you should go off the road you would wind up down a mountain or in a tree-top. You have to totally focus on your driving. I really enjoyed the drive.

The 2 flea markets were large with many booths and dealers. Lots of Antiques, tools – some I did not have a clue what it was. Thank goodness there were labels on some of them saying what it was. Shops with all types of old bottles, shops with everything Coke a Cola, Harley Davidson, and hand-made quilts, Indian pictures and statues, fresh produce markets, kitchen utensils, hunting and collector’s re knives, canoes, pine wood hand-made furniture. You name it, you could find it there.

What I found interesting was the vast number of video’s and DVD’s for sale.  I guess with winters being very cold in the mountains it is a requirement to have many movies to watch and get you through the cold months and possible Cabin Fever. For me it will be easy as I make a living on the internet and am able to work from home on my blog.

I did manage to resist the Funnel cake, but had I spent another 5 minutes there I would have had to have some. So if you are ever in the area do check out these flea markets.

Fall Foliage in Blairsville, GA

Mountains north of Blairsville

Blairsville Mountain View

I’ve been spending some time in the great town of Blairsville, which is located in Union County, Georgia. It is well known as a great summer vacation area and as the gateway to the Appalachian Mountains. A small town with a big heart and the people are very friendly and helpful.

I’m up from sunny Florida, where I lived most of my life. I’m enjoying the cooler weather, so far. I’m just in awe of the mountain ranges and the colorful sunrises and sunsets are priceless. When the weather gets too cold I’ll just stay inside and work on my blog.

I did arrive in Blairsville, just in the nick of time to see the ending of the fall foliage and the multi-colored leaves. Mother Nature was working her magic. The leaves were picture perfect. Now I understand why so many people make annual trips to see the fall foliage color show.

It reminded me of when I was a kid growing up in the northeast. Each fall we raked all the leaves in the yard into big piles. Mom and Dad would let us play in them as a reward for our hard work. We would run and jump into the piles, throw the leaves into the air and roll around in them.  Being a Baby Boomer, it’s nice to stop and think back about the fun times growing up when we used our imaginations to entertain ourselves.

On weekends I take a break from working at home and I go exploring new places here in North Georgia and I’ll be sharing my pictures with you. So stay tuned…

After Tropical Storm Ida

After tropical storm Ida hit landfall in the USA, we were most fortunate to just have rain for a few days here in N. Georgia.  The fireplace was aglow and keeping us warm and toasty.  It was the type of day to just curl up with a book and tea by the fire.

I’m so glad we did not have to go outside in the rain and cold. That’s one good benefit of working from home, not having to deal with the seasonal weather changes.  The rain replenished the nearby stream and you could hear the rushing of the water.

It’s beautiful to see the changing of the seasons; it’s something I have not seen in many years having lived in Florida. Yes, it does get cooler in Florida but you really don’t see the changing of the season’s as you do further north.  The majority of the trees are losing their leaves and getting bare.  The trees that still have some of their leaves are holding onto them as long as they can.  It is so beautiful here with the mountains.

Nature gives us the seasons so we can enjoy the nicer weather with outdoor activities with family and friends.  Then when fall and winter comes we become like the bear’s who hibernate for the winter.  We stay inside and need to rejuvenate ourselves and enjoy the holidays with family and friends.  It’s most important to be in the present moment and enjoy things that are happening right now in your life. Live each day to the fullest!

Saluting our Veterans

Veterans We Salute You
Veterans We Salute You

Each year on November 11, our nation celebrates and honors our Veteran’s.  We take this one day to thank all the men and women who have lost their lives in the armed forces and to those who serve each day and put their lives in harms way to protect our country and to help keep America Free.

Veteran’s Day holds a special place in my heart because my Uncle Joe was killed in World War II.  My Father received a letter and picture of his grave site in France in his honor.  Uncle Pete was able to visit the grave site in honor of Uncle Joe and it helped the family to put closure to losing Uncle Joe.  He served his country and gave all that he had to give – his life.

Like the bumper sticker says, “Freedom is not Free”. I’d like to personally “Thank all of the Veteran’s and their families for paying the price to keep us safe and to keep America Free.  “Support our Troops” and God’s Speed to You All!

Birthday Weekend Celebration

Mom's Favorite Picture

Mom's Favorite Picture

How was your weekend? Mine was fantastic, celebrated my recent birthday and did what I wanted to do all weekend. Imagine being able to do whatever you wanted for the whole weekend? With the cooler weather, I felt like a bear hibernating for the winter when I slept in till early afternoon.

Some very good friends took me out to dinner to celebrate my birthday. Dinner was very, very good; I had prime rib, Caesar salad, sweet mash and broccoli.  LOL at the funny birthday cards I received. A good time was had by all.

Towards the end of the meal I received my surprise birthday ice cream.  Thank goodness there was only one candle on the ice cream, if there were as many as how old I am, the ice cream would have melted way before they finished lighting the candles. I blew out the candle before anyone could start to sing Happy Birthday, because the restaurant was crowded and I would have been totally embarrassed.

Age is just a number, it’s the life you put into your numbers that counts.  How you share your life with family and friends is what life is all about. Life is full of learning experiences, but I still feel as adventurous as I did when I was younger.

This was the best birthday I’ve had in a long time and I even got to take a short break from blogging, but now it is time to get to get back to work.  So whenever your birthday may be, Happy Birthday! Share your baby picture with us.  Enjoy each day and take care for now…

Blogging for Newbies

Starting and setting up blog, about me, JoAnn Guida, has been the best challenge I have had in a long time. I want to be able to work from home and make a living on the internet, doing and researching things I love. In order to do that, I’ve got quite a few things to learn and there is a lot to do to getting things setup.

I have read many e-books on internet marketing and there are very few that start you from step one. They expect you to have some sort of knowledge of all these buzzwords that are flying around and that can be overwhelming. I have been most fortunate to have Erika Rich, take me under her wing and guide me.

It is almost like a baby learning how to get around – first you learn to turn over, and then sit up, then kneel while holding on to something.  Next you stand up – still holding on and after a while you take a very deep breath and let go and move your foot taking the first step and yes you may fall down, but you never stay down.  How do I know this – because all of us who are walking around fell and got back up until we succeeded.

So back to the blogging and learning social networking and marketing – yes I will stumble, but I will get back up and it is my goal to succeed and newbies so can you. Stay tuned for updates…
